Susan Mccord- Amera Basenjis - One Bad Breeder.
My son purchased a puppy, he named him Kane. He always wanted a dog of his own, we had dogs when he was growing up but like many people he wanted one that he picked out, one that would be by his side all the time not a little lap dog that ran to his mother like the other dogs we had.
He read about dogs, all different breeds and eventually came across the Basenji and decided on that breed. His research lead him to Susam McCord at Amera Basenjis, a breeder in Pennsylvania, one state away. He visited Susan McCord and made arrangements to buy one of her puppies. And when the time came he purchased a pup for a substantial amount of his hard earned money. But when weighed against the years of happiness and enjoyment a dog brings to its owners life the few thousands dollars seems like a value really right?
From the very start Kane had medical issues. Parasites like Giardia gave him diarrhea that had him soiling his kennel everyday and night. My son and wife both had to have a preventive course of medicine because it was impossible to not come in contact with the feces while caring for the dog. That was just the start and I will go into detail after we come to terms with yesterday, what would have been Kanes 1 year birthday was the day that my son had to make the decision after spending over $10,000 trying to save his dogs life, he had to put the little fighter to sleep. His organs began to shut down after refusing to eat any food for over a week and simply giving up the fight.
Kane never really acted like a puppy. He had glimpses of puppy activity, a day here and a day there but you could count on one hand the days that were actually fun for the dog. My son had even less fun days with the dog that he loved before he even met the dog. The entire pandemic my son spent every waking moment caring for that puppy. Spending every dime he earned on vet bills and taking out a special credit card to deal with the vet bills for testing and medicines and special diets. He says he won't ever get another dog after this experience and that is a real shame.
Susan McCord is the root of the unhappiness that has fallen on my house. Her unsanitary breeding practices are where it starts but her lack of care for other peoples feelings concerning the emotional attachments to pets and the sadness a sick animal brings to its owner is what really makes me sick. She knows she is selling sick animals. Through the forums for Basenjis it is evident that many of her puppies require extensive veterinary care and many perish even with the best of care.
This woman made my son very unhappy. She stole from him the joy of having a loving pet and her lack of care cost him a lot of money and left him in high interest debt. And she did it just for money. Susan McCord is a scumbag of the highest proportion. She is force breeding puppies and selling them regardless of health and hiding behind a contract written to protect her no matter what. Susan, if your reading this, I promise you that you will soon be done in the sick puppy business and will be ostracized from any dog related business in the future. You are not fit to clean kennels at a local animal shelter, that's evident from the list of parasites Kane came to us with. Change your company name, change the breed you are dealing with, change your name if you like. I am going to make sure every time someone types your name or the word basenji into google that one of my webpages is at the top of the list even if I have to pay to put it there.
This webpage hopefully will serve to warn other Basenji buyers not to purchase puppies from Susan Mccord of Amera Basenjis and to be aware that she is in Pennsylvania and to be leary of any breeder in Pennsylvania offering Basenji puppies as she may change the name of her business or may change the breed of dog she is puppy milling at any given moment.
If you are a victim of this unscrupulous puppy mill operator and would like your story added to the list please contact me through the contact us page. Send me your story and a photo of your puppy and I will make a page for your pup as well so that you and your dogs suffering will not be in vain and we can at least stop this one bad breeder.
